HAZARDPARKBLOG 06/15/2008 - The Beginning

My Friends,

yeah I'm writing a blog. I never thought I would but here you go and I actually enjoy it! You're kind of talking to no one and everyone at the same time. You're writing a letter to the "internet" and hope that someone reads and possibly likes it. Anyway, this is not why I'm writing.

This is going to be a blog about my current short film production still named the The HAZARD PARK PROJECT. It is called that because I am working in and around Hazard Park in Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles. And it is the territory of a local latino gang.

This is a film about ANGEL, a young Latino, who is caught between gangbanging and his African-American friend JAMIE but due to his passiveness a decision is forced upon him. It is the third in a series of shorts dealing with youth and growing up in different environments. And this series will continue.

I am working with kids from the Ramona Gardens projects and a few other residents to star and crew in the film. One of them is George 'Payaso' Sarabia, an ex-gangmember and a really fun guy, hence his streetname. He was part of Edward James Olmos' AMERICAN ME and the follow up documentary LIVES IN HAZARD.

We're gonna start shooting in 2 weeks so things are getting serious. Still haven't worked out the permit and insurance issues which are a bitch! And sometimes you even get slapped in your face by someone stupid. That's filmmaking. Constantly solving problems.

That is it for now. I want to make this a regular thing and I hope I got you interested (I guess if you read this far you are).
